#RacingforSurvival with DS TECheetah

You may have seen us sharing a few posts about Formula E and the DS TECheetah team on our social media recently – that’s because this awesome motorsports team are supporting their namesake big cat by joining forces with us and Big Cat Sanctuary for their #RacingforSurvival campaign. This campaign aims to raise awareness amongst their followers, as well as funds to help save the cheetah.

But what exactly is Formula E? To put it simply…Formula E is Formula One with electric cars. And, it’s the fastest growing motorsport on the planet. Since the idea was conceived back in 2011, the technology behind electric cars has been consistently improving and the ones you will see in the races this year are the fastest they’ve ever been. Formula E’s founding mission was to race through the streets of the most iconic cities in the world – with a grid full of the best racing drivers and teams around – to show just what sustainable cars were capable of, driving electric vehicles to the fore in the race for a better, cleaner future. Ten years later, Formula E now has 12 teams and 24 drivers on the grid.

In September 2020, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship became the first global sport to be certified with a net zero carbon footprint from inception. This was achieved through investing in certified climate-protecting projects in all race areas to offset emissions from all six seasons of electric racing. They’ve got loads more awesome initiatives which you can find out about on the Formula E website.

Right now they’re right in the middle of the World Championships and team DS TECheetah are in second place overall, but are just two points behind the leaders. Their two drivers, António Félix Da Costa and Jean-Éric Vergne are second and sixth in the standings respectively. So yes, they’re doing a fantastic job!

Something that’s really amazing about Formula E is that it’s one of the very only sports where fans can help determine the outcome. If you vote for the DS TECheetah drivers through FanBoost, they’ll get an actual boost in speed during the race that could be the difference between them winning or losing. We’d love to see this cheetah-loving team win the world championships so will you join us in giving them a boost? Vote here.

With the race London happening this weekend (24th and 25th of July) we’ve got our claws crossed for the team. Let’s all get behind this awesome team and get them speeding over that finish line cheetah-style!
