This week we were able to rescue three more cheetah cubs from the illegal trade in Somaliland, taking the number of cheetahs under our care there to 17.
They still couldn’t walk and their teeth were just starting to poke through their gums, so we estimated them to be less than 3 weeks’ old: 2 males and 1 female. At this age, immediate and proper care are critical. With no time to lose, the CCF Hargeisa team rushed to the location to pick them up in the middle of the night, successfully negotiated a handover and immediately began providing them with round-the-clock care . The cubs appear to be healthy and adapting well, and they started walking yesterday! We are cautious but optimistic that they will continue to thrive.
